The well-known watchmaking company from Italy – Panerai – has recently become a sponsor of an exhibition dedicated to Galileo’s telescope. It is taking place in the Stockholm museum and boasts many interesting exhibits.

Panerai provided the exhibition with three objects which may compete with other exhibits for the attention of visitors. Among them there is the Jupitarium Сlock which was created by Panerai in cooperation with the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza (Florence Institute and Museum of History and Science). The clock is powered by a movement which provides 40 days of power reserve. Jupitarium clock shows the position of the Zodiac signs and also the movement of the Sun, Jupiter and its four satellites.

The clock presents an embodiment of Galileo’s idea of creating a fantastic astronomical clock that showed Jupiter’s position and the phases of its moons precisely, which would be a way to read local time. With this clock Panerai celebrates both the International Year of Astronomy and Galileo’s works.

In one of the interviews the CEO Panerai, Angelo Bonati, said that the exhibition is a great opportunity to link the name of the brand to the scientific achievements of Galileo. “As a Florentine brand, we wanted to support the endeavour to showcase Galileo’s key contributions to astrology, because these are the cultural treasures of the city of our birth”, he added.
